Welcome home: Jackets rout Presbyterian 59-3

Just five days after a season-opening loss on Labor Day, the Jackets were looking to rebound at home on Saturday, Sept. 8, against the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Tech did just that, shutting out Presbyterian until the final play of regulation and topping the Blue Hose 59-3.

Notre Dame joins the ACC

The ACC and the University of Notre Dame officially announced a partnership on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in which the Fighting Irish would join in every sport aside from football, where they currently act as an independent.

During my freshman year in 2009, Tech arguably had the greatest year in its sports history. All but three teams were ranked in the top 25 nationally. Football, softball, golf, and baseball won regular season ACC championships, while football, softball, and golf—maybe Tech’s most consistently talented program—won their postseason titles.

After falling to the Hokies to begin the season, Tech looks to earn its first victory in ACC play. The Jackets gained momentum against Presbyterian last week and will try to follow through with a victory over the Cavaliers this weekend in their first home conference game.

Volleyball takes two of three non-conference games

The Tech volleyball team travelled to the Indiana Hoosiers’ campus over the holiday weekend to take part in the Indiana Invitational. The team entered the weekend undefeated at 3-0, but did not escape unscathed as they lost to host Indiana in the finale after beating Bowling Green and Cleveland State.

Cross country starts season strong

Tech’s cross country team competed at the Bulldog Cross Country Invitational in Athens, Ga., this past weekend to open the season. The Jackets started the year strong, placing second in both the men’s and women’s events.

Time Out with Nishant Prasadh

It’s one thing for the NCAA to institute more rules to increase player safety in an increasingly violent game. It’s another for them to use the pretense of safety to make odd rule changes that disrupt the game while providing little or no health benefits.
