Senior Elizabeth Kilborn of the women’s tennis team traveled to Los Angeles over the weekend to compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American tournament. The pre-qualifying matches were held on the UCLA campus on Sept. 29-30, but the qualifying and main draws that followed those matches were held at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Kilborn went into the tournament ranked No. 94 in the country in the ITA preseason rankings. Kilborn entered the tournament with a 2-1 record, having already defeated two opponents ranked in the top 30 in the nation.
Kilborn won her first match on Saturday in the pre-qualifying draw defeating Vanderbilt’s unranked Ashleigh Antal 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Kilgore came up short in her second match, losing to UCLA’s Kyle McPhillips 6-2, 7-5.
McPhillips, who defeated Winthrop’s Yasmine Aikema in her first match to play Kilborn, also won her next match.
The next tournament for the women’s tennis team will be the Alabama Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Oct. 5.
