Virginia Tech hands Jackets first home loss of 2011

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas posted 279 total yards and five touchdowns on the day, while running back David Wilson ran for a career best 175 yards to propel the Hokies to a 37-26 win. Historically, the winner of the matchup between these two teams has gone on to represent the Coastal Division in the ACC Championship since 2004.

The Hokies could not be stopped on third down, converting 10 of their 16 attempts with the majority of the conversions coming on long pass plays or quarterback sneaks. The Jackets were outgained on the ground 267 to 243 en route to giving up 476 total yards. That was the highest total yardage allowed by the Jackets this season.

The game had several lead changes through the second and third quarter, but the Hokies took a permanent lead after a personal foul by the Jackets helped Virginia Tech drive for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Virginia Tech stands on top of the Coastal Division standings after the win, while the Jackets were eliminated for contention in the ACC Championship.
