On Jan. 8, the Board of Regents approved the merge of eight colleges across the University System of Georgia (USG) into four new colleges, with an anticipated state savings of $6 million in administrative expenses.
The newly merged colleges are listed as the following:
- Georgia Regents University, from the merger between Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University
- Middle Georgia State College, from the merger between Macon State College and Middle Georgia College
- University of North Georgia, from the merger between Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University
- South Georgia State College, from the merger between Waycross College and South Georgia College.
