Former Tech students win gold in Beijing
Two former Tech students won gold medals in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Chris Bosh, who won a gold medal for his part on the USA Men’s Basketball team, played basketball for Tech during his freshman year before being drafted to the Toronto Raptors in 2003. Angelo Taylor earned two gold medals in the Olympics for 400-meter hurdles and as part of the 1600-meter relay team. Taylor attended Tech from 1997-98, winning the NCAA title in 1998 and 2nd place in 1997.
Professor awarded 2007 National Medal of Science
Mostafa El-Sayad, Regents Professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry has been awarded the 2007 National Medal of Science. This award is the nation’s highest honor in the field.The award honors individuals for pioneering scientific research that enhances understanding of the world and leads to innovations and technologies that give the United States its global economic edge.
El-Sayad is currently working with his son Ivan to develop cylindrical gold nanorods that can bind to cancer cells.
