On the night of Saturday, Feb. 9, from 7 p.m. to midnight, the High Museum of Art will proudly host their tenth annual College Night at the High event. Titled “College Night Art Break 2008: A World of Art,“ the event accordingly flourishes an international theme.
Entailing discounted student tickets for all those who provide valid college IDs, the museum offers a night of live music, art exhibits, workshops, open mic sessions, team trivia and many other activities.
The evening will also play host to the opening night of two special exhibits: “TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American & Latino Art“ and “Georgia O’Keeffe and the Women of Stieglitz Circle.“ Also on display at the High are the exhibits “The Louvre and the Ancient World and The Eye of Josephine,“ “Embodying the Sacred in Yoruba Art“ and “Street Life: American Photographs from the 1960s and ’70s.“
DJ Tabone will be spinning Afro-beats, and there will be a live performance by funk rock band, Golden Fro.
The Open Mic “ARTiculate“ session is open to anyone, and attendees can book a time-slot in advance to express themselves through words, music or dance by e-mailing [email protected].
There will be two workshops: Passport Around the World Paint-By-Number Mural by Sam Flax, and Deconstruct/Reconstruct T-shirt workshop by Alternative Apparel.
Other fun events include ART Bingo and drawing in the galleries with a live model. Guests can also spin the ART wheel to win free prizes such as CDs and gift cards.
