Representatives from Auxiliary Services and Waffle House held a small ground-breaking ceremony at Tech Square last Friday, Feb. 5. The ceremony will start off a 60-90 day construction period leading up to the grand opening of the restaurant, tentatively planned to be some time in late spring.
WingNuts will close its doors at its North Ave. location on Feb. 28, earlier than the expected relocation date of April 30. The restaurant previously announced plans to relocate to near West Campus, specifically to Marietta St. adjacent to Engineer’s Bookstore and Spoon restaurant. The move was necessitated by Auxiliary Services announcement of plans to build a dining hall in North Ave, using the space that was previously reserved for retail. Construction for the dining hall has already begun in that area.
The Office of Capital Planning and Space Management hosted a town hall event on Jan. 28 in an effort to update the campus community about the ongoing construction of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Center (CULC).
EastSide Market has been relocated to Brittain Rec due to the demolition of its original location on North Avenue to make way for the new North Avenue dining hall.

As of earlier last week, the team responsible for the CULC have shifted to the next phase of its construction, including large digging of soil and other earth in the area that was formerly Yellow Jacket Park.

Wingnuts will close its doors what may be the last time this December in order to accommodate Tech’s newest dining hall at the North Avenue Apartments. The Quiznos and EastSide Market in the same location will also close so that construction of the new dining hall can begin over winter break. As of now, there are no immediate plans to find alternate space for any of the current retailers as of yet. Construction crews are slated to begin selective demolitions sometime in the spring and the facility will be in operation for fall of 2011.
