Nathan Rakitt began his second season with Tech men’s tennis well by winning two matches at the UVa Ranked +1 Invitational this past weekend.  In Charlottesville, the sophomore from Georgia posted a 2-2 record and finished fourth in the orange level singles bracket.

Seeded seventh in the tournament, Rakitt won the first two matches he played on Friday over Albert Wagner from Louisville and Simon Norenius from NC State.  He then lost the semifinal match to eventual champion Andreas Bjerrehus 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday and then lost to Joao Monteiro in a three set match 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 on Sunday.

Also competing this past weekend was Carlos Benito, a freshman from Madrid, Spain.  He paired up with Rakitt to go 1-2 in the doubles competition and also dropped his only singles match, a three set decision 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, to Sean Weber, in the unranked circuit.

Next up for Tech is the USTA Southeast Regional Competition on campus at the Byers Tennis Complex, Oct. 11 to Oct. 15.  With Tech hosting the event, expect to see many more players in action for the Jackets.
