College mergers across Georgia

On Jan. 8, the Board of Regents approved the merge of eight colleges across the University System of Georgia (USG) into four new colleges, with an anticipated state savings of $6 million in administrative expenses.

The newly merged colleges are listed as the following:

  • Georgia Regents University,  from the merger between Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University
  • Middle Georgia State College, from the merger between Macon State College and Middle Georgia College
  • University of North Georgia, from the merger between Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University
  • South Georgia State College, from the merger between Waycross College and South Georgia College.
