When I first saw the trailer for Uber Entertainment’s Monday Night Combat (MNC), I was ready to write it off as a Team Fortress 2 (TF2) clone dressed up to poke fun at pro-football. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to discover that MNC owes as much of its heritage to Defense of the Ancients (DotA) as it does to TF2, resulting in a refreshing blend of tower defense and team-based shooting.

About six years ago, I heard that a friend of a friend was working to start up a local roller derby league in Atlanta.

Some might think it would be risky to set up a burger joint right down the road from the famous Flip Burger, but that’s exactly what Erik Maier and Shaun Doty did. Yeah! Burger opened on June 3 in the White Provision Complex on the corner of 14th Street and Howell Mill.

Before you even read this sentence, you are already incredulous. Five stars? For Piranha 3D? What sort of staff writer is this? How could you compare this movie with the cinematic greats of the past? This rating is meaningless, you might think, and so now I must spend the rest of this review convincing you.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World fills a curious void in pop culture, in spite of its humble beginnings. It could be mistaken for merely a video game movie by some or a comic book movie by others, but this would be a sore mistake as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World effectively blurs and blends the story across different media to keep the audience riveted. It throws humor, poignant thought and boisterous fight scenes onto the screen so fast that it makes viewers feel as though they have ADD.
